Brian J. Bork Releases Threads of Rebellion, a Fantasy Epic Where Gods Exist Only Because Mortals Fear Them

Wisconsin, United States, 4/8/2026 Brian J. Bork, a Wisconsin-based debut author and longtime technical trainer, today announced the release of Threads of Rebellion, the opening volume of The Threadbreaker Trilogy, published through Parker Publishers. The novel is an epic fantasy adventure following Edrin Ashwood, a blacksmith’s son thrust into the heart of a brewing rebellion when an insidious plot disrupts the fragile peace of the realm of Aurelia.

Ordinary Edrin finds himself forging unlikely alliances with a diverse band of companions, including a sharp-witted Sythari lizardfolk scholar and a courageous Threadfolk seer, to stand against rising divine tyranny. Together, they uncover a conspiracy that reaches from imperial courts to sacred shrines, culminating in a daring attempt to sabotage a wedding that was meant to peacefully unite the various mortals of Aurelia. The tone balances high-stakes drama with camaraderie and hope, as humble heroes find the courage to challenge zealots and would-be tyrants.

Beneath the action, the novel explores the tension between power and choice, control and self-sacrifice, and ordinary courage versus God-like manipulation. Edrin is no Chosen One. He wields a simple hammer, not a legendary sword, and possesses no prophecy or birthright. He just survives. This grounded approach lends the story a relatable underdog appeal even as divine forces scheme in the background.

“I wanted to write a fantasy where the hero is not the chosen one. He is just a man with a hammer who refuses to look away,” said Brian J. Bork, author of The Threadbreaker Trilogy. “In Aurelia, the gods are powerful only because mortals are afraid. The moment that changes, everything changes. That is the story I needed to tell.”

A World of Six Races, Ancient Wars, and a Cosmic Loom of Fate

Aurelia is home to six intelligent mortal species, each with its own culture and history. The Threadfolk are the predominant humans found in towns and cities across every realm. The Stoneborn, carved from rock and granted life with a heartstone, dwell in the mountains and craft fortresses from enchanted froststeel. The Felindari are a proud cat-like people of the deep forests, marked by a panther emblem and skilled in stealth and woodland lore. The Sythari are a lizardfolk race of the marshlands, communicating through pheromone scents and possessing an acute olfactory perception of the world. The Aerithari live on floating sky-islands connected by rope bridges, engineering gliders and airships. And the reclusive Veilkin tend hidden glades bound by sacred guest-oaths that forbid violence within their sanctuaries.

At the metaphysical heart of Aurelia is the Loom, an ethereal tapestry of fate and magic that resides on another plane and is never seen directly. Centuries before the events of the novel, the Mantle Wars pitted the elemental gods against one another and shattered Aurelia’s moon into a broken ring of lunar fragments still visible at dusk. In the aftermath, a peace accord called the Concord forced the gods to withdraw from direct rule. They now touch the mortal realm only through dreams, omens, and the rare mantling of willing avatars. That fragile peace is now at risk.

A Found Family Standing Against a Hidden Mirror Mage

Edrin’s found family forms the steadfast core of the trilogy. Lysera, his fiancée, is a clever and compassionate Threadfolk woman who possesses the Sight, a budding prophetic intuition that offers strategic insight to the group. Bran, a Sythari scholar, brings wilderness savvy, scent-tracking skill, and unwavering loyalty. Theryn, an unpredictable Threadfolk rogue with twin daggers and panther-like grace, arrives without warning and vanishes just as quickly. Alira, a daring Veilkin healer who has left the Veilwood Hollow to aid the rebellion, brings diplomacy and quiet strength. Together, they stand against Kaelith, a charismatic reformer who is in truth a powerful Mirror Mage with a tyrannical agenda, and her zealot enforcer Malrik, whose blind devotion makes him as dangerous as he is predictable.

A Trilogy Designed as a Single Story

Threads of Rebellion is the first installment in The Threadbreaker Trilogy, a complete arc that continues with Threads of Deception and concludes with Threads of Sovereignty. Themes of personal freedom, the value of found family, and the right of mortals to shape their own destiny will resonate with readers who enjoy thoughtful fantasy. The series targets adults and teens who love expansive world-building, multi-layered characters, and the classic triumph of defiant hope against overwhelming odds.

The trilogy is positioned for readers of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time, for its epic scope and its world where destiny is woven like a pattern, and for fans of Brandon Sanderson’s The Stormlight Archive and Mistborn, for its immersive world-building, original magic systems, and the journey of underdogs rising to challenge godlike forces on the strength of personal honor and friendship.

“Threads of Rebellion is the story I needed to tell after the hardest year of my life,” Bork added. “It is about courage in the face of grief, about refusing to kneel when kneeling would be easier, and about the people who hold us together when the world falls apart. Everything else, the gods, the Loom, the world, grew around that.”

About Brian J. Bork

Brian J. Bork was born, and mostly raised, in Wisconsin. He first fell in love with computers on an IBM PC/XT in the 1980s and never really recovered, in the best way. For more than three decades, he has combined his love of technology and education as a technical trainer, turning complex ideas into stories people can use. Outside of work, he’s fueled by his family, travel, great food, Maine Coon cats, and decades of tabletop RPG campaigns with friends who know exactly how to derail a “simple” quest.

After the loss of his son in late 2024, Brian began imagining a world where someone could challenge the gods and fate itself. Threads of Rebellion is his debut novel and the first in The Threadbreaker series, with Books Two and Three coming soon.
